Making a pasta dish it says I need 50 grams (1.7 oz) ricotta cheese I bought a 2 dl (0.85 cup) box of ricotta. So how much is 50 grams?

    you must be make some kind of a mistake in reading the recipe. Deciliter is a measure of liquids decigram is a measure for solids.
    10deciliters= 1 liter
    10 decigrams=1gram.

    deci is just a metric prefix and means one tenth (1/10).
    your problem is, that liters (you got 2 deciliters) are a measurement of volume. and grams (50 grams needed) are a measure for weight.
    since you already know that you need 1.7oz of ricotta, just put it on a balance and take 1.7oz of your 2dl cup.
    edit: 1liter of water is 1000g. so 2dl of water would be 200g.
    if ricotta has nearly the weight of water, you would need 1/4th of your 2dl ricotta cup.
    i would say ricotta is about 1/3 the weight of water… sooo :D
    => 2dl ricotta = 66g.
    conclusion: eat two spoonful of ricotta to try the taste, use rest of your cup for the recipe.
