Can I Replace Sour Cream For Ricotta Cheese/cottage Cheese?
Filed in Category Ricotta Cheese
I want to make lasagna, but I don’t have ricotta cheese, can I use sour cream and more cheese to make it. I don’t have tofu either.

No. I’m Italian the only way to do it right is with some Ricotta cheese. Some people use Cottage cheese. YUCK!!!!! Do it right with Ricotta or don’t make it at all. Sorry that’s my opinion. (you asked and I answered)
You can, but it will be wetter and won’t have the same taste. I’ve made lasagna a lot of times. I’d stick with cottage cheese, it tastes about the same as ricotta and it’s cheap.
Not a good idea – if you do not use ricotta is it really lasagna anymore? Substituting another cheese might work… Sour cream is not cheese. I made a peach pie once but did not have enough peaches so I added pears. Did I still have a peach pie?
Yes, you can do that. Or you can leave out sour cream & ricotta and use a cheese of your choice in it’s place. Me & my kids don’t eat ricotta so I never put it in lasagna. Also, I have a recipe for baked ziti which has sour cream in it & it is wonderful! So I would think it would be just as good in lasagna.
I BELEIVE THERE IS NEVER ANYTHING WRONG WITH SOUR CREAM, BUT IT WILL CHANGE THE DISH SOMEWHAT. THE COTTAGE CHEESE/RICOTTA IS WHAT FLAVORS THE DISH, BUT TRY IT !
I think you are going to need the ricotta cheese or cottage cheese. You need the cheese flavor/texture/consistency. I think that sour cream wouldn’t have the right taste or consistency but good luck if you try it!!
Yes that should be fine, just mix in a little cheese with it.
no way, ricotta is cheese, not cream. Sour cream will melt to liquid. You can replace teh ricotta with another cheese but it wont really be lasagna, ricotta is what makes it.
You can replace ricotta with cottage cheese but don’t use sour cream. It has a much softer texture and your lasagna will turn into soup. Sour cream also has a different flavor so it will taste funny too. Go online to a site that has recipes and see if you can find an alternate recipe that uses something other than ricotta (like vegetable lasagna) rather than substituting.
