Do You Have To Use Swiss Cheese For A Fondue?

Filed in Category Swiss Cheeses

I don’t like Swiss cheese, but I really wanna through a fondue party, and I also want to have a variety of cheese, if that’s possible [ this is my first party ]. So does anyone know if you have to use Swiss? And if I don’t, does anyone know of any recipes?

You don’t have to use swiss, but don’t just substitute another cheese in a tradtional recipe (fat content and melting points are different).
I’ve included a link for some alternatives. As well as bread for dipping, don’t forget to include some sliced apples…mmmmm.

    There’s dipping, and then there’s “dipping” !
Of course you can use any cheese that softens properly, but only Swiss cheese has all the proper things going for it…………It has great consistency ,proper stringy quality when heated to the right temperature, a nutty flavor that is unique to Swiss cheese, and therefore has earned the right to to be used for “traditional” fondues.
If you’re having a fondue party, why not include other types as well, such as chocolate(using a variety of fresh fruits). I once had a meat fondue(small cubes of fillet mignon), that were dipped in a variety of sauces that were great !
Do as you please, and remember that you can also”combine” Swiss with other high quality cheeses to make your fondue. Good luck !

Sure you can. You can also have a christmas dinner without turkey, or a christmas tree with no presents, but it just wont be the same thing. Dont be a dick, go buy the swiss cheese and save every bodys christmas!

Swiss is actually a lot harder to melt than most other cheeses. I usually use cheddar based sauces. The quick and easy way is just open a can of Campbells Cheddar Cheese soup and put it in a crock pot.

nope, use can use cheddar, american, whatever…
as far as recipies go, melt cheese, dip whatever you like cheese on in there. pretzles, bread, apples, etc experiment and find what you like!
