How can you tell if ricotta cheese is bad?

I have an unopened container of ricotta cheese that is dated 9/13/08. It still looks good, no mold or anything. I worked in grocery store so I know plenty of foods are still good past the sell by date. Do you think it is still good and how can I tell?

give it to some one how likes food if they don’t get sick it’s ok
it’s still good about a week past the expiration date.
if it’s bad it will definitely have a bad smell to it.
