How do you make a cheese sandwich?

Filed in Category How To Make Cheese

When I was little, my mom always made cheese sandwiches with Miracle Whip. I don’t like Miracle Whip, so I make cheese sandwiches with Helmann’s Mayonnaise. I made a cheese sandwich for my daughter and her best friend yesterday and her friend told me the sandwich was gross. Her mom and dad AND my boyfriend all made fun of me for not knowing how to make a cheese sandwich! Am I the only person that eats cheese sandwiches with mayo instead of ketchup? That sounds gross to me. Am I wrong?

Mustard goes better with a cheese sandwich.

i don’t use mayo or catchup. i butter the outsides of the bread and put the cheese inside. i only fry it in a cast iron skillet. that is it. no oil in the pan, no mayo. they are awesome!

Actually, mayo and ketchup both sound weird to me.
If I am eating a cold cheese sandwich, I like vegetables (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) and pickles, maybe a little mustard.
A melted (or grilled) cheese sandwich needs nothing but the pure glory of cheese, it all its melty goodness.
Now, I have used mayo on the outside of a grilled cheese sandwich before and it produces a nice golden crunch on the outside of the bread when it gets toasted in the pan.
    Good times!

a cheese sandwich? if you want to solve this problem, just make grilled cheeses from now on. I don’t even know what a cheese sandwich is.

all you need is Cheddar cheese and some bread…
then you can add things you like to it (extras) such as a bit of butter, sliced tomato or cucumber, ham or chicken rolls, few chopped boneless black olives..

or you can use two slices of toast and sliced cheese (any type) with thinly sliced onions and tomato then put the toast on each other (after filling it with the cheese, onions and tomato) then put it for a minute in your grill machine…

I butter both slices of bread and put two pieces of cheese (I love pepperjack) in between them. Toast the sides with the butter and enjoy! simple! I like mayo on mine also. Sometimes I put grilled red onions on my sandwich. If it’s good to you (so what) let them laugh and make their own sandwich.

    QUICKIE GRILLED SANDWICH

    Sliced bread, your choice
    Peanut butter
    Onion, sliced thin
    Sliced American cheese
    Mayonnaise

Spread thin layer of peanut butter on sliced bread; add thinly sliced onions and slice of cheese. Put together as sandwich, then spread thin layer of mayonnaise on outside of “sandwich”. Grill in frypan or on a skillet. Delicious and full of protein!

    JAZZED UP GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH

Make grilled cheese sandwich as you normally would, then add bacon bits and mustard before you put top slice of bread on.

No there are several ways to make cheese sandwiches. I use mayonnaise but Kids really love cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches or cheese and vegemite sandwiches. Never put ketchup with cheese. What I normally do is turn the grill on the stove and put four slices of bread under toast one side and turn them over and put cheese on the untoasted side of the bread and put it under the grill until it melts the cheese and take them out put on a plate and lightly sprinkle black pepper and cut them into fingers for Kids. (Welsh Rabbit). You can put a slice of tomato or ham on the bread under the cheese.I normally have one with coffee as a snack.

    Grilled Cheese Sandwiches:

    Difficulty: Easy
    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 20 minutes
    Yield: 4 servings

    8 (1/2-inch thick) slices country-style sourdough bread
12 ounces Monterey jack, farmhouse Cheddar, Gruyere, or imported Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter

    Ad-ins–choose one:
8 slices smoked bacon, cooked and broken into 1-inch pieces,
2 vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced, and drained on paper towels for 5 minutes, or
    8 slices baked ham

Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Place 4 slices of bread on a cutting board and generously butter the top sides of each slice. Melt another tablespoon of the butter in the skillet; swirl around to coat the pan.

Lay 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Put a few slices of the cheese on the bread. Lay the bacon, tomato, or ham on top of the cheese. Cover with a few more slices of cheese. Top with 2 of the remaining slices of bread, placed buttered-side up. Cook, without pressing, until the bread browns and the cheese is slightly melted, about 5 minutes. Turn the sandwiches with a spatula and add a small hazelnut-size piece of butter to the pan. Cook slowly, adjusting the heat as needed to melt the cheese completely before the sandwiches are brown, about 3 to 4 minutes more. Repeat with the other 2 sandwiches. Serve.

Mayo, Miracle Whip, and Ketchup ALL sound GROSS on a cheese sandwich!!!

I only ever eat a grilled cheese, so I put cheese b/t 2 slices of bread, butter the outside, and grill in a pan until golden brown.

Are you talking grilled cheese, or cold cheese sandwiches? For Grilled, I just use butter on the outside of two pieces of bread, put cheese in the middle, and grill. For cold, I too use miracle whip.

  17. vonneybeth

I love cold cheese sandwiches! I like to put lots of mayo on each slice of yummy wheat bread, add a nice slice of medium cheddar cheese, a little salt, and bon appetit!

I always use generic salad dressing. Which would be the generic version of Miracle Whip. I don’t like Helmann’s at all.
