Is Cheese Made Out Of Moldy Milk?

Filed in Category Cheese Milk

My friend claims that cheese is moldy milk. I think she is just saying that because she doesn’t like it. But since cheese is made of milk is it true? I don’t think it is because people wouldn’t eat it and it wouldn’t be healthy for you like people say it is. Its not a big deal but i am jw.

    Yea it kinda is.
It’s milk with a special bacteria added and then it’s left to ferment. There’s some other steps in the process that i’m not too sure of so i left out.
the length of time left to ferment , kind of milk, and kind of bacteria determines the kind of cheese.
And don’t worry it’s still good for you.
As for rottincherrie, I don’t know what she’s talkin bout. Cheese and milk are very good for you. they contain calcium and Vitamin D and plenty of other good nutrients. However that artificial crap like cheese whiz is bad for you. but things like deli and gourmet cheese are good. Just remember portion control.

No…cheese is made from milk that has an acid called “rennet” added to it.
Blue cheese is cheese that is moldy, but it is a healthy mold like penicillin. (You DID know that’s what penicillin is made of, didn’t you?)

No, thats not true. After culturing, which is done by adding culture and enzymes, cheese is aged, but its not made from moldy milk. I make homemade cheeses with fresh, raw milk, straight from my cow, and vegetarian rennet or mesophillic. Blue cheese and gorgonzola, and stilton cheeses do contain a certain type of mold. If you use cheese that contain non vegetarian rennet, keep in mind that it comes from the 4th stomach of slaughtered baby veal calves, so it does contain animal products. Cabot has a good line of vegetarian rennet cheeses.

Different cheeses are made different ways.
Cheese is a solid food made from the milk of cows, goats, sheep, and other mammals. Cheese is made by curdling milk using a combination of rennet (or rennet substitutes) and acidification. Bacteria culture acidify the milk and play a role in defining the texture and flavor of most cheeses. Some cheeses also feature molds, either on the outer rind or throughout.
    Hope this helps :)

Not exactly, the milk is put in with types of bacteria, but bleu cheese and other kinds of cheese have mold on them, but arn’t harmful and are delicious

Your friend is right, but not totally. It’s not the kind of mold that you are picturing. But ever wonder how Bleu cheese is that strange greenish color?? Mold baby, mold!

  14. mrchris4 on November 29, 2009 1:29 pm

    yes it is

No, milk is not made from moldy milk. They are probably thinking of bleu cheese, which does have a mold in it that is not bad for human consumption.
Tell your friend they are quite wrong.

It’s expired milk, I don’t know if it’s moldy. It’s expired and blended together with bacteria somehow to produce cheese. Some cheeses have rennet–calf stomach–to make curds, but most cheeses aren’t curd. Cheese isn’t good for you, though. Nor is milk, no matter what society says.
