Is It Possible To Make Cheese Dip In A Rice Cooker?
Filed in Category Cheese Dips
I have a small rice cooker in my dorm, but I would like to make cheese dip in it. I just use the standard Rotel and Velveeta recipe–would the cheese melt in the rice cooker?

Yes but it will get to hot and scorch your cheese. A crockpot has lower heat or even use the microwave, I use the defrost setting to melt cheese cause it melts it very slow. Stir it every few minutes.
I wouldn’t do it. Use the dorm’s microwave or a crockpot.
Rice cookers and hotpots shouldn’t be used for anything other than their intended purpose. There’s no way to control the temperature and they generally run on timers or heat sensors. Basically, you’ll wind up burning the cheese and tomatoes to the cooker and not being able to get them off, or you will seriously overcook or undercook them.
To answer your question: yes, the cheese would melt. It would take awhile, do so unevenly, probably burn, likely ruin the rice cooker and make it permanently discolor or smell funny.
i’ve never cooked anything other than rice in a rice cooker however im sure you can. in fact i have a friend who loves to bake who is living in korea right now…she doesn’t have an oven in her apt..apparently not an uncommon occurrence in asia. she has baked brownies and even an apple pie in her rice cooker. just keep your eyes on it while its cooking..good luck.
