Once Opened, For How Long Is Ricotta Cheese Good?

Filed in Category Ricotta Cheese

There is a “use by” or a “sell by” date on the ricotta cheese, but it doesn’t say “use within x days after opening” or anything. So is it really good until the end of August if I have already opened it? I wouldn’t think so but I really don’t know.

It’ll last about a week or 10 days in the fridge after it’s opened, however, you can freeze it for months. Ricotta is usually made from cow’s milk although the traditional kind from Italy is made from sheep’s milk. Goat milk tastes too strong in cheese for me and it’s rarely if ever used in ricotta.

no ricotta doesn’t keep well after opening. usually 3 days is about it
but if you are going to just use it for cooking, you can freeze the rest till you need it
thats what I do, I got tired of having to throw away the rest after a few days, I’ve got some in my freezer now will use it next time I make stuffed shells

That is for retailers to keep track of the age of their products. Better to sell by that date. I would say it will usually keep for a week after opening. When it starts to grow ‘hair’ – throw it to the hogs!

nope. it lasts about week or two
u have to be the judge – if it stinks or tastes slighty odd then chuck it.
it should really say use between x days of opening though.
