Why have I gained weight?

Filed in The Category Grilled Cheese

Hi all,

I have always exercised and ‘tried’ to eat right (I try to have good main meals but I also eat junky type snacks) and just in this last week I have really put my mind to it and actively tried to eat very healthily and amped up the exercise.
So basically I started one week ago with this diet.

I go running/walking every day for an hour. Doing interval training as well as running up very steep hills in my neighborhood. The rest of the day my exercise is very minimal and I am seated for a majority of the time.

I no longer snack an if I do it is on a few rice crackers or fruit like peaches or a banana.
For breakfast I have a smoothy made from strawberry, banana and skim milk however I am often in a rush and if I don’t have time to make it I will have a popper type drink made from flavored soy milk (200cal).
For lunch I have a salad sandwich made with wholemeal bread, light olive oil spread instead of margarine, one slice of cheese and salads like lettuce/tomato/beetroot/cucumber. I have no dressings or mayonnaise with this.

At dinner I have been having just salad with maybe some grilled or BBQ chicken though only about half a breast worth. Tonight I am planning to mix up up a bit and instead have an omlette made with vegetables and egg white.

I usually have one after dinner mint at night because it stops me from feeling like snacking.

I never feel starved during the day from this diet although I sometimes get a little bit hungry before my meals.

I weighed myself yesterday at day 6 and I was down 1.4kg (about 3 pounds) from my starting weight. However, I did what dieters are not supposed to do and weighed myself again today and I am 0.2kg (1/2 pound) heavier than my STARTING weight. So all this work an I have only gained.

Is this normal? What am I doing wring with all this? I know it is ideal to eat six small meals a day but I find when I do this I am more inclined to snack on rubbish so I try to do the 3 meals.

What should I do?

About introducing dairy for my 9 months old..?

Filed in The Category Ricotta Cheese

I have heard that its better to start with youghurt and cheese.

Just wondering if there’s any particular kind? I have heard cottage cheese, ricotta, cream cheese, processed cheeses and hard cheeses like cheddar and parmesan are ok.. Triangular cheese spreads are appealing because they come with individual wrapping and so soft on little palatebut I am not sure if they are safe to give for the bub..? I just read somewhere that they are not pure cheese, but cheese with other additives. Also.. would I be able to find any cheese with low or no salt.?

Is there any particular kind of youghurt as well? What should I look for when I shop for dairy for her this evening.?

Pls also comment on your experience on introducing dairy to your bub. Any tip would count.
Thanks heaps

Is this a good workout regimen?

Filed in The Category Grilled Cheese

This is similar to what Pitt used for Fight Club. I’m a girl so I wouldn’t (obviously) eat as much. Would this help me get lean, toned muscles (i also workout almost every day and karate 3x/week).

Breakfast: 3 egg whites, or 1/2 cup of oatmeal with raisins.

Midmorning snack: piece of fruit (Any other suggestion??)

Lunch: can of tuna and green veggies

Mid-afternoon snack [Pre-Workout]: Banana

Post Workout: Whey Protein Shake and apple/fruit

Dinner: Grilled fish, brown rice, vegetables.

Evening Snack: fat free/sugar free ice cream or cottage cheese, pineapples

Any suggestions or corrections?

What is a good continental no-bake cheesecake recipe THAT WILL SET?

Filed in The Category Soft Cheeses

I have made a couple and they are all good recipes except they don’t set properly? What can i do to help it set or do you have a recipe that is YUM and GUARANTEED to set??
Thanks guys. Heres the recipe i used that didn’t set;

Ingredients
250g sweet biscuits – I use Arnotts Nice ones
125g butter melted
375g cream cheese – I use Kraft Philly (1 1/2 pkts)
Zest of 1 lemon
1/3 cup lemon juice (I don’t measure it, I use about 1 1/2 ?lemons) use more zest if you want it more lemony in flavour
2 tsp vanilla essence (or I use 1 tsp vanilla bean paste)
1 tin condensed milk
Line the bottom of a 20cm spring form tin
Crush biscuits in a food processor until fine – or crush with a rolling pin or mallet
Add melted butter and mix well
Pour into tin and press along sides and base. I find that the sides only need to go up about 4-5 cm.
Chill in fridge for 10mins or while making filling
Beat cream cheese until soft; add vanilla and lemon zest, mix well.
Add lemon juice and condensed milk slowly and mix until combined.
Pour over base and refrigerate over night.
