What Are The Soft Cheeses You Should Avoid During Pregnancy?

Filed in Category Soft Cheeses

I know they say no blue cheese or feta cheese, but what others? Is cream cheese considered a soft cheese to be avoided or is it just cheese mixed with cream? I am a huge cheese lover and have only been avoiding the blue & feta cheeses.

I heard that brie and blue cheese are on that list but, most people (including my doctor) are saying now that it’s ok because most of the cheeses sold in the U.S. are pasteurized. Which is what you needed to look out for. But, if you are like my husband, you may purchase white cheeses from Mexico or Central America at international grocery stores. Those you should stay away from, because you are not totally sure of the pasteurization process they use.

Check out this site thenest.com they have a pregnancy section with a list of 10 myths about pregnancy. The cheese one is in there and so is the alcohol one. I am pretty sure it was actually written by an OBGYN or someone else as qualified.

Just check if they are pasteurized, if they are go for any cheese. Now a days you can find almost all kind of cheeses pasteurized.

any type that isn’t pasturized. Blue, Feta, etc… cream cheese, cottage cheese and things like that are okay.

my doctor told me I could eat those cheeses. Its weird, she said as long as you know how old it is, its ok. I LOVE FETA!! but was thought I had to quit. However, I asked my OB and she said go for it, as long as you got it yourself, and you havent left it out too long.
