France produces about 400 types of cheese. Camembert is the most famous.
Well, Camembert and Brie are types of cheese.
A cheese that is super well known is ‘La Vache qui rit’ which means ‘The Laughing Cow’. It was invented in 1921 by Léon Bel.
You can find a bit of history here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Laughing_Cow

Hi!
If you are looking for a company it’s definitely Lactalis (they make “Président” camembert (but also other type of cheese).
They are ranked first biggest milk product firm in Europe and 2nd World Wide.
Then you also have Bongrain (they make “Coeur de Lion” which is also a very famous camembert).
Both are really famous.
Well in France we have lots of cheese, from a lot of different milk (cow, goat, sheep…), some are hard, other are soft, in some you can eat the outer part (crust?), other you can’t (or shouldn’t). Some are white, other orange. Some have added bluish/greenish leaving stuffs inside that make foreigner pass out…Some are really strong, while other have light taste…
So yes, in France (and around too), we love cheese.
If you’re in France, instead of buying branded cheese, I’d advise you to go to a small market and buy locally made cheese…it might actually be cheaper, and it’s usually a *lot* better.
What’s the best quality and the most famous French cheese company? Well, I don’t know. Anyway, it depends on your taste. Everyone is different, so just trust yourself. Try a lot of different kind of cheese and make your own conclusions.
I guess if you ask about export, you’re unfortunately not in France and can’t easily test lots of cheese. Well, maybe you can ask around you, there might be some French cheese group that regularly import cheese (and often wine too) and have some tasting sessions…
