You can syndicate both the entries using Cheese Feeds and the Cheeze for Kids Comment Feed.
I eat lunch meat all the time. I have never heard of it… I’m sure if it was an issue one of my nurses or doctor would have said something.
i read it but have ignored it bc my dr told me it is a myth… eat what u like and want.
The risk is Listeria. You can google it. There’s TONS of info on it. It’s really rare to actually happen though.
My doctor explained to me that deli meat, soft cheese, hot dogs, etc. all care bacteria called lysteria. She explained that lysteria wouldn’t harm the baby but that it can make the person who eats it (me or you) extremely ill and they can’t really do anything for you but continue to hydrate you until the bacteria is out of your system. The reason that medical services can’t do anything for you is because you’re pregnant, so they can’t give you anything.
You’re okay to eat deli meat as long as it is heated to at least 165 degrees before you eat it.
They say to heat lunch meat due to the threat of listeria. Not sure what it is or what it causes, but not good for the baby evidently. I still indulge every once in a while. Who wants warm lunch meat?
soft cheeses are the ones like feta and blue cheese because of the bacteria, lunchmeat no problem because they are processed, you will have no promblem in eating these things, I ate feta all the time but i hated blue cheese
I guess there is some kind of bactria in cold meats. But I asked my doc about it. He said that fresh deli meat from the supermarket or subway is just fine. Just eat it the day you buy it and don’t get the prepackaged meats from the store. Those are the ones you want to stay away from. My sister would eat deli meats with both her babies with no problems. just be careful where you buy your meat.
If you live in America its not really that big of an issue. We have too many pasteurization laws to have a huge problem with cheese or lunch meat.
There are a lot of things you ‘can and can’t’ do during pregnancy… I gave up on the list and did what I felt was best with the information I had.
Salmonella. I dont know the risks- but there is some- so I wouldnt risk it. lol. Every now and then I eat a few slices of deli meat because I crave it. Also hotdogs must be cooked fully- everything must be cooked fully- theres risks! and I dont want to take them.
I dont think I had ever heard of ituntil I got pregnant… and they just told me to make sure everything like hotdogs and lunchmeat was heated through.
It’s an illness called listeria or listeriosis and it’s from lunch meats and soft cheeses. and when you eat them you’re supposed to heat them till they’re steaming hot so it kills the bacteria if there is any, i asked the same question yesterday!
Listeria- it is a very rare bacteria. Rare but occasionally in pregnant woman it can cause a miscarriage. Honestly people eat luncheon meat and soft cheese all the time and are fine, but why risk it? Simply by heating up the meat you take away all the risk. So while pregnant, I think it is best to be safe then sorry.
