What Kind Of Russian Or Possibly Georgian Cheese Comes Usually Braided?

Filed in Category Cheese Shops

Looking for the name of a cheese that can be found almost anywhere in Moscow — it usually comes in sticks or braided and is similar to string cheese — slightly harder, and it tastes smoked. I don’t think it’s actually Russian per se, but you can find it at pretty much any cheese shop or grocery store, atleast in Moscow — it’s possibly from the South of Russia.

It’s Armenian. I believe it’s called Chechil, but in the U.S., it’s just called Armenian string cheese braid.

Kolbasnyi syr? I ‘m not sure from your description if this is it but kolbasnyi sir is the only cheese with smoke flavour that is popular in Russia.

I think it is Armenian String has a mild taste and the color of the cheese is pure white. A Syrian-style String cheese is similar to regular String cheese. This cheese is used as a table cheese and also for cooking.
