Why are restaurant cheese sticks better than the frozen ones from grocery stores?

Filed in Category Cheese Stores

I LOVE mozzarella/cheese sticks and have tried just about every brand in grocery stores, and none of them taste the same as they do at a restaurant. What’s the secret? Can I make some that taste just like the restaurants?

I’ve found the same thing, the frozen ones are just gross. I like to make my own fresh. I just cut up the mozza (you can try with other cheeses too), dip in a egg wash, then in fine bread crumbs, and fry. They’re so yummy.

the secret is egg wash, crumbs, egg wash, crumbs (yes, bread them twice) and be sure they are VERY cold when you fry them in oil

The restaurant’s taste better because they are made fresh and not frozen. Frozen food never tastes quite as good as fresh.

well the decent restaurants will very likely buy their own cheese from a cheesemaker they’ve gone to personally, they could ask their help to make one which is why it has a particular taste. Also don’t fall for that trap, like you know, when someone cooks a meal for you but you find you don’t really eat it when you cook it yourself. Yeah you can make it taste like theirs, just ask them i’m sure they’re more than willing to help you, maybe even give/sell you some!
