Why Doesn’t Cheddar Cheese Melt, When Making Nachos In My Microwave?

Filed in Category Cheddar Cheese

American cheese melts just fine, but, cheddar cheese comes out like plastic. Is it supposed to be mixed with cream or something?

natural cheeses don’t melt like all the fake cheeses that have cream and other things added. don’t melt cheese in the microwave because the oil will separate and it’ll become a huge slimy ball of slop. melt the cheddar cheese in a pot with a little bit of half and half, cream or some vitamin d milk. real cheddar cheese that comes in a block doesn’t melt that well. instead, try montery jack. (it’s cheddar with white splotches) it’s the best type for melting.

Considering all the biological products and fake stuff nowadays, you might want to try cheddar cheese from different brands, becasue if its only the brand you are using, it may be fake stuff.

Are you using any kind of reduced fat or fat free cheddar? If so, that’s the problem. Otherwise, I don’t have a problem with real grated cheddar melting in either the microwave or the oven.

Maybe your microwave has issues with the cheddar cheese. It melts just fine in mine. :-)

The thing you gotta realize is that cheddar just won’t melt satisfactorily, so what you do is melt velveeta and stir in about a third of the volume you started with of cheddar. That way you get the flavor of the cheddar and it’s easier to dip. Keep the velveeta on low heat and stir until the cheddar blends in – it’ll only take a few minutes.
Oh – and it’ll all work so much better if you use a double boiler on top of the stove instead of the microwave.

You’re using real freakin’ cheeze dude! Can’t nuke that stuff. You need something cheapo, like 90% milk. They melt just fine. I’d try Velveeta if I were you. It melts quick and makes great sauce.
